Joanne Cleland 1933-2022

Our dear mother Joanne passed away on March 31st, 2022, after suffering a major stroke. She died peacefully with Todd and Anne by her side. She lived a long and rich life and was in good health up until her last year. While we are sad at her passing we are grateful to have had so many years with her. We will miss her warm, optimistic nature and her consistent gratitude for life's blessings.

  2. (Aunt) Joanne was such a warm, loving and vibrant person. I have such great memories of our family spending time with hers (Joanne, Uncle Frank, Todd and Anne) at their Houston home in our younger years – endless games of marco polo in their pool, playing all kinds of games, and partaking in many family meals around the Cleland dining room table. Joanne had the greatest laugh and I remember that she used it often with all the funny stories that she and Uncle Frank told us about their adventures, usually involving boating or camping trips with their family. I know how much she enjoyed being a teacher, and thinking how great it would have been to be a student in her class. I also remember fondly when she and Uncle Frank invited my family out to Bend for the first Christmas after my dad passed away, and how it made that holiday season so much easier to be with a loving extended family and in a such beautiful place (away from our Houston home). And it was wonderful to have her and Frank join us in Santa Fe for our wedding ceremony, the last time that I saw them both together. Joanne had a wonderful impact on so many people that knew her, including me and my family, and I am so happy that she was a great aunt to me and my brothers and sister-in-law to my mother.
